On February 21, 2024, vendor, Change Healthcare disclosed a cyber security incident that had ramifications across the whole health care industry. Change Healthcare is a widely used provider of health care billing and data systems. The Statewide Benefits Office (SBO) has recently learned that letters are being mailed to impacted members, and, as a result, SBO is receiving calls and emails seeking verification. Due to the sheer magnitude of this incident, Change Healthcare has not been able to provide our third-party administrators with member impact reports; therefore, SBO will not be able to assist organizations/members with verifying member impact or with the specifics of the data which was subject to the breach. The letter being mailed to impacted members  offers 2 years of free credit monitoring. Individuals receiving the communication are encouraged by SBO to review and take action as outlined in the letter.

November is Diabetes Awareness Month. In fiscal year 2023, 16,542 members of the GHIP active employee and early retiree population (and their dependents) had an episode of treatment for diabetes or pre-diabetes at a cost of over $301,000,000 and representing over 15.1% of the total active employee and early retiree total population and accounting for 35.8% of healthcare expenditures. Diabetes puts people at risk for nerve damage, cardiovascular disease, foot and limb injuries, vision problems, and other complications that arise from having uncontrolled blood sugar. Diabetes also raises a person’s risk of having severe symptoms and complications from COVID-19. The good news is that prediabetes and diabetes are treatable. Information about diabetes prevention and management resources available to members of a State of Delaware non-Medicare health plan can be found on the Diabetes Resources page.

All bariatric surgeries are required to be completed under your SurgeryPlus benefit with a surgeon in the SurgeryPlus network. Bariatric surgery is not covered under your Aetna or Highmark Delaware non-Medicare health plan and will not be eligible for a financial incentive.
