Delaware & National Women's History Educational Resources

The Office of Women's Advancement and Advocacy is proud to present this curated collection of lesson plans, articles and associated resources for Women's History Month and beyond. By presenting both Delaware and National resources, our hope is to make it easy for Delaware educators to celebrate the many accomplishments of women in the classroom. If you have any suggested resources for us to add, please contact DelawareWomen@delaware.gov.

Delaware Women's Hall of Fame Art Exhibit

Art ShowTo mark the 40th year of the Delaware Women's Hall of Fame, the Office of Women's Advancement and Advocacy (OWAA) commissioned portraits representing every woman inducted into the Delaware Women's Hall of Fame. The portraits and corresponding online portfolio was created with the goal of increasing the visibility of women in public spaces and ensuring that the legacy of Delaware women is acknowledged and celebrated. In addition to the art, OWAA researched and wrote biographies for all 170 Delaware Women's Hall of Fame members. The opportunities to use these materials as an educational resource are endless. Here are some examples of how to integrate this project into the classroom setting:

  • Use this #MyHallofFame  children's art activity to have your class draw who they think should be in the Delaware Women's Hall of Fame. Here is a finished example.

  • Visit the Delaware Women's Hall of Fame art exhibit. The exhibit is currently on display at the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics located at 20 Orchard Road, Newark, Delaware 19716. The exhibit is in the free and open to the public during regular business hours (8:30am – 4:30pm).

  • Have your students nominate someone for the Delaware Women's Hall of Fame. Nominations open in January and can include both living and posthumous Delaware women.

  • Are your students doing a presentation on famous Delawareans? Expand the list to include the 170 members of the Delaware Women's Hall of Fame. The online portfolio features both paintings and researched biographies.

  • Check out these books written by members of the Delaware Women's Hall of Fame from your local library.
