Long-Term Disability Insurance (LTDI)
Long-Term Disability supports you if your medical condition continues beyond your Short-Term Disability period and you still cannot work. This benefit is also part of the State’s Disability Insurance Program (DIP).
Long-Term Disability begins on the 183rd day of your disability. This is the day after your Short-Term Disability ends. Once your claim is approved, you receive 60% of your pre-disability base pay in monthly payments. These payments may continue until you recover, return to work, or reach the program’s maximum benefit period based on your age and plan rules.
The Hartford may ask for periodic medical updates. It is important to respond quickly so your benefits continue without interruption. You also continue to be eligible for State health coverage during approved Long-Term Disability, as long as you follow the program’s guidelines and pay any required premiums.
If you remain disabled, you may stay on Long-Term Disability for an extended period. When you are medically ready, you may return to work with approval from your doctor and your agency. The ACT Team can help you understand the steps for returning to duty or exploring other employment options within the State.
If you believe your disability will last longer than your Short-Term Disability period, please reach out to the ACT Team. We will help guide your transition to Long-Term Disability and stay with you through the process.
