Health Advocate for Managers, Supervisors, and Training Administrators Only
Managers and supervisors should work with their organization’s Human Resource Department to request an employee referral. The Human Resource Representative will contact Health Advocate to initiate the request.
- Mandatory Referrals are made by HR or a Supervisor when an employee is required to use the EAP services as a condition of continued employment, usually due to serious concerns like safety violations, substance use or misconduct.
- Fitness for Duty (FFD) is a forensic evaluation completed by a psychologist or psychiatrist outside of scope of the EAP for the purpose of evaluating an employee’s ability to safely perform the functions of their job and assess organizational and behavioral risk.
- Substance Abuse Professional Services (SAPS) Referrals are for employees subject to federal drug and alcohol testing regulations under the Federal Department.

- Disruptive Event Management is a type of structured group meeting used to support employees who have experienced traumatic events in the workplace.
As part of the contract with Health Advocate, the State of Delaware has a limited number of live webinars and in-person training hours available at no additional cost. Trainings beyond the contract limit may be charged to the requesting organization.
Managers and Supervisors EAP Orientation

- Description: This training focuses on the supervisor’s role in the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) referral process. The goal is to present the EAP as an effective, preventive resource for employees whose work performance may be impacted by personal problems. The workshop covers the basics of the EAP, including how to make referrals, techniques for reaching out to employees with support, and handling different reactions employees may exhibit when approached. It also addresses obstacles to successful interventions and the dangers of enabling.
