A Message from CVS Caremark
“The safety of pharmaceutical products is critically important to CVS Caremark. We have policies and procedures in place to help ensure the medications your prescription plan covers are safe, reliable and of high quality. Drug suppliers must warrant that their products comply with FDA and all other applicable regulatory requirements and are manufactured in accordance with current good manufacturing practices.
When determining which drugs will be included on our formularies, and when they will be covered by your plan, CVS Caremark aligns with the most up-to-date evidence-based clinical guidelines, including labeling for FDA-approved medications and medical data. To accomplish this, we have Utilization Management (UM) programs that review prescription drugs for medical necessity, appropriate use and safety. Common utilization management programs for prescription drugs include prior authorization, quantity limits and required use of lower-cost or generic options before coverage of certain drugs.
We are focused on clinical accuracy and standards of care to help drive optimal health outcomes. In addition to ensuring that our UM programs support the most up-to-date clinical guidelines, we also ensure they are implemented consistent with your prescription benefit plan design.”
