New Employee Enrollment
Newly hired and newly benefit-eligible State of Delaware employees may enroll in Group Universal Life (GUL) Insurance within 30 days of becoming eligible for benefits. Employee only coverage is available at 1-6x the employee’s base salary, up to $350,000.
If you enroll within your 30-day initial eligibility period, you can select coverage without providing proof of good health.
- Employee: Select 1-3x base annual salary, up to $200,000
- Spouse: Select $10,000 or $20,000 group term life coverage
- Child: Select $10,000 or $20,000 group term life coverage
State of Delaware Employees:
The Securian website and Benefit Scout®, Securian’s online decision-support tool can be accessed in Employee Self-Service through my.delaware.gov to enroll. Once logged in, follow the navigation to the Securian website: Employee Self Service > Benefits > Benefits Websites > Securian.
To apply for coverage on the Securian Financial website, select the coverage option you would like, click on the “Enroll” button and follow the instructions that appear. Make sure you designate your beneficiary(ies).
Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA) Employees:

User ID: The letter “d” followed by the first four letters of your last name followed by the 1st letter of your first name followed by your middle initial. If you do not have a middle initial, please use the first two letters of your first name.

Password: Your eight digit date of birth, followed by the last four digits of your SSN. (If you have already logged in, your password may be different. If you don't remember your password, contact Securian Financial at 1-877-215-1489.)

Select the coverage option you would like, click on the “Enroll” button and follow the instructions that appear. Make sure you designate your beneficiary(ies).

Enrollment During the Plan Year
You can select or increase your GUL coverage anytime throughout the year by providing proof of good health. Employee only coverage is available at 1-6x the employee’s base salary, up to $350,000.
If you have a qualifying life event, such as a marriage, birth or adoption, you may be eligible to increase coverage without providing proof of good health.
- Employees may increase their coverage by one level, up to a maximum of 3x base annual salary, or $200,000, whichever is less.
- Employees may enroll a spouse and/or dependent(s) in dependent term life insurance.
Eligible employees who experience a qualifying life event during the plan year should contact Securian within 30 days of the change.
*Those who have been previously declined, selecting coverage greater than the guaranteed maximums listed above, and/or selecting coverage outside enrollment opportunities, will be required to provide proof of good health.
